To connect to a LAN server, you need to be in the same internet network. LAN stands for Local Area Network. So your friends need to come over to your house and connect to YOUR internet to play in a LAN server with you.

I've had a little trouble with LAN servers too. I couldn't connect to my friends until this message came up saying if you would like to have java enable stuff (sorry about the vagueness) and I enabled it and its worked every since. So maybe java isn't letting you guys connect to each other. Maybe try adjusting some stuff.

I Had this same Problem also with my brother. I have a Windows, and went into my command prompt. Then I typed in ipconfig. I looked for my IPv4 Adress. Take this and use type it into a direct connect after you open a LAN world. EX: 123.456.7.8 Next, take the port you are given ingame when you create the LAN world. EX: 25565. Combine them together in the direct connect so it would look like this: 123.456.7.8:25565

How might this work on Linux? My sibling and I went to use a LAN world, but couldn't figure out how to even make it pop up as an option. I tried ipconfig and other similar prompts but still couldn't find the ip I need. I understand Linux and Windows are different in very important ways, so what is the prompt I am looking for here?

note: I think the word is prompt. I'm not sure. Whatever it is you type in.
