Now I'm also getting into the Total War series (specifically the Medieval and Rome games). I downloaded the demos off of Steam, and I find them very entertaining. I'm planning on buying a Total War game very soon.
Rome Total War is my favorite non-console game of all time, I suggest getting Rome 2 when it comes out if you're getting a Total War game. (my advice is worth a ton because I made it so obvious that my views are biased. xD)
"To blunder twice is not allowed in war." - I don't remember.

On the computer, I like an old game called "Empire Deluxe". It's a turn-based strategy game, where you have to explore the world to find the enemy (up to 5 additional enemies) and destroy them before they destroy you. You capture cities along the way (both neutral and controlled by the enemy) and set up production of new military units (infantry, fighter planes, destroyers, battleships, etc.) to build up your military.
I started playing this game in the 80's when it was a DOS version (Windows wasn't really that popular yet), and later moved to the Windows version. The rights to the game has been bought by a few different people, and right now is owned by "Killer Bee Software". The came out with an "Internet Edition" which had some minor tweaks, but the biggest was that you could play online against others. it always had multiplayer, but it was either on the same computer, or PBM (Play By Mail), where you saved the file at the end of your turn and mailed (or emailed) the save file to your opponent for their turn. Not the best way, but this was before the Internet was around for consumer use. They also came out with an "Enhanced Edition", which I really don't care for.
Read my blog for the latest on what's on my mind.
And feel free to PM me with any issues you have, or just to say "Hi!".

Played that both on IBM and on the Mac. Always so much fun - mostly because it felt that you were fighting on a HUGE planet. The enemy could, in fact, sneak in subs and surface ships into your waters without you noticing them unless you properly set up patrols with aircraft and naval units. You had to be on your toes.
