First I saw of Team Fortress 2 was in the Valve Orange Box
Wiki page is here: http://wiki.teamfort...Team_Fortress_2
From the Wiki, under Release:
Quote
Team Fortress 2 was released October 10, 2007 as both a standalone product via Steam and at retail stores as part of The Orange Box – a game bundle pack priced at each gaming platform's standard price. The package also contains Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode One, Half-Life 2: Episode Two. and Portal. Valve offered The Orange Box at a $5 discount for those who pre-purchased it via Steam before the October 10 release, as well as the opportunity to participate in the final beta test of Team Fortress 2.
The Orange Box, on Steam now, is $19.99USD http://store.steampowered.com/sub/469/
I'm going to conjecture that it originally shipped for either $30 USD or $60.

Yeah it was 20 dollars, but when I bought it, I got it for 25 dollars because I got it with Garry's mod. It would have been pretty awkward if someone bought TF2 a few hours before it became F2P ._.

The top is from my Steam Store transaction history. The bottom is from TF2's Wikipedia page.
Also, this thread doesn't need to exist. It should probably be discussed in the TF2 discussion thread.

That's just it. There's no evidence to support the theory that it shipped by itself. Notice how in the post you've quoted here, it says "The Orange Box, Magicka"
I'm assuming since they're like that, that it was $29.98 for both.

but seriously, most data points to it only being available in the Orange Box.
Did I mention that it was probably never available outside the Orange Box? Current retail value is $10~. Why does it even matter what it cost before it was Free-To-Play? FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. ^__^

Anyway, I know for a fact it was released as a "stand-alone" download on Steam, but I have no idea how much it costs. A lot of things are suggesting that it cost somewhere between $15 and $25 USD on Steam, which, to my knowledge, was the only place you could get it without buying the Orange Box.

Minemarty, you're getting a warning for your excessive exclamation marks. At any rate, it appears TF2 was available from Steam, The Orange Box AND as a retail package.
