As a requirement - no.  As a hardcore option - perhaps.  :mcpaul: Paul certainly tipped his hat to the idea in is Nether Man vs Minecraft series.  But in the long run for everyday play, I'm not looking for any more reality.  Food is far enough.

'tis but a scratch! I've had worse. It's just a flesh wound.

I think a thirst bar would be a bit too much.  I like the idea of carrying a canteen of water with you, but it could be a small health boost.  Maybe a full canteen gives you 3-4 drinks that each restore 0.5-1 hearts and maybe a small amount of the hunger bar.  It wouldn't be enough to replace a health potion, but it might be just enough to keep you alive in an emergency.

I like the hunger thing but thirst wouldn't make an interesting addition. Sometimes it's hard enough to find something to eat and having to drink something, too, would just make it impossible to play at all.

However, I do like the option of drinking milk as an antidote.

It's already painful enough having to worry about hunger, but thirst as well? No thanks! :P

I would like it if 1 waterbottle completly refilled water and if it always takes 3 days for complete thirst, also if rain refilled the thirst and jumping in water refilled thirst.
I'm a new youtuber who focuses on minecraft and a few other games, I will have a series dedicated to redstone and builds using redstone, eg a griefer proof house with a combination lock with 3125 possible combinations

also maybe if they added a mode "role-playing mode" where you had tiredness, temperature, etc.

I think it should have some dependency on your biome. For example, if you're strolling through a desert, your thirst meter should deplete much faster. The logic being that its substantially hotter. And to expand on that, I guess it should also include whats around you in your environment. So if you were around lava, it would also deplete faster. Whereas, being around water sources or in biomes where it isnt "hot", it would last longer.

I still don't think it has a place in the game though. It seems like something that would just be an added chore. The hunger bar is enough in my opinion. Managing a thirst meter as well would just seem unnecessarily tedious.
It's a perfect night for a sword in the face.

Yes, I've played with thirst back and 1.7.3 and it was really fun. However in order for thirst to work you need finite liquid otherwise there is no point as you can just "create" water whereever you want.

Water should be a resource you have to preserve and channel into your base. The ability to move source blocks around makes the value of water worthless.

I love the survvial aspects of MC and thirst could work to enhance the survival aspect.

No, minecraft needs to stay like it is now, without thirst. It would make it too complex. This is a mod sort of thing. Or maybe for adventure mode only, idk
