Not sure what my next art project will be, yet. Probably some single-character art for now...

Nice turn of events for an otherwise horrible experience. I got a lot less tin and silver(the real kind, not that 'fake' kind that makes like one or two things) and lead, but the diamonds were nice. I only needed two or three more to make a quarry, but I went ahead and made a mining turtle... those things look like they could be just as good, and if used right, maybe even better. Didn't have time to use it yet, though...

For now, I blocked three of the portal squares on each world with cobblestone, and when I have the world load, I hold two directions and the spacebar in the hopes that I'll jump back out immediately if I get close to falling in again. But if anyone knows a better way of entering the portal while avoiding that immediately-teleporting-back thing, lemmie know.
Otherwise I've just been using my mining turtle and getting a couple tier-1 machines started. Found an abandoned mineshaft that is pretty huge, so I'm already avoiding large amounts of ore I should be getting. Got a mining backpack that's pretty handy, planning on getting a digger backpack next, but I'm also wishing I could upgrade to the bigger packs already(but WOW those are expensive/complex to make).

Wow, you're really getting villages all the time? I don't have even a far off sighting of a village anywhere around. I just allowed it to generate a random seed...

From the FTB Wiki: "Attempting to tap a saphole after it has disappeared can cause the tree to stop producing sap altogether; so wait a while and let the saphole return on its own."
I had some of my trees stop producing sapholes. When they did, I chopped them down and replanted with saplings. The new trees produced sapholes just fine.

Also.....stupid Greg Tech. I finally got the materials for a mining laser because I saw how to make good use of them, but I couldn't power it. I need an MFE apparently. Guess what? I can't make an MFE with the actual recipe...because Greg Tech overrides it....I need lithium batteries, and that requires an industrial centrifuge, which requires a crap ton more advanced alloys. At least if I can actually get a centrifuge going and get some sand, I can start working my way towards solar panels, especially since advanced solar panels are my ultimate goal at the moment. My geothermal's running out of lava cells quick though, and that costs a lot of tin, so I'm going to still be a while before I can relax a little.
I'm also REALLY annoyed at Twilight Forest. There aren't any 'special' areas around my spawn, but it's laggier than the nether, and the worst part - I keep loop-teleporting between worlds no matter what I do, it's so annoying and makes my computer lag HARD trying to reload and unload each world over and over and over again. Personally I don't think I'll ever go back unless I'm REALLY desperate.

FYI: The FTB Forum has a collection of very helpful links for FTB v1.4.2 on this Forum.
Revived Guide Thread
BTW, am I the only one experiencing Minecraft crashing whenever I start a new world using the FTB launcher?
When I start it up again the new game was saved and then loads just fine.

Wow, after a LOT of work and trying to figure out things like the industrial centrifuge(because I thought gold wire acted the same as copper wire..somehow it doesn't), I *FINALLY* got ONE advanced solar panel! Although I'm attempting to use it to charge my mining laser, since an MFE seems so far away now. Seriously, I wish I could have used the energy-crystal recipe, because the lithium battery recipe is nearly impossible for me. Where do you even get aluminum? I've never seen it anywhere....
I also built a pretty neat savannah-tree house, using scaffolding. Has anyone on the Mindcrack FTB used scaffolding yet? It's so awesome...as much as Etho likes his ladders, I'm sure he'd LOVE scaffolding(although you can't shift to stay in one place). You can stand on top of them, and the best part is that you can build on them as well as raise them simply by 'punching' them with another scaffolding block on your hotbar. It's awesome stuff.
For now, I think I'm looking to make at least ONE more advanced solar panel, charging that mining laser, and getting some lithium batteries for that MFE that I need. Then maybe I can start piping and macerating + mass-producing ores for later stuff. And building a bigger/better home of course.

Macerate Bauxite ore and run batches of the dust through an Industrial Centrifuge. One of the products will be aluminum dust.

Oh that is what you use Bauxite ore for. To bad I do not have an Industrial Centrifuge. What should I do with my uranium? I used to turn it into raw energy in an energy condenser, but on FTB I cannot see any uses except for a nuclear reactor which I am hesitant about since I do not like blowing up.

Yeah I barely came across the info a few hours ago, but thanks. The problem is that I'm nowhere near a redwood forest biome, or a 'real plains' biome...I think I'm in a red-mud/jungle-forest/savanna biome. I've never seen the stuff, although I hear other areas have it in HUGE quantities. Guess I'm going to have to travel for a bit. :S
Man, just spent like four hours here-and-there glancing at customizing a painterly pack. So I could merge it with the FTB add-on painterly pack. Don't have the RAM to try it yet, but hopefully it'll look decent enough. I tried the 16x BD-craft sphlax or whatever, but it wasn't complete, and I got kind of annoyed that they just downscaled it in the worst way possible...just looked back, should have been optimized, but wasn't. Oh well.
