Ah, well that might be fine then. I'm sure they'll change it soon, but the rubber boots are currently better than the long-fall boots anyway.. XD

Yeah, way cheaper to make, as long as you have a swamp near by lol.

Oh man, I had the wildest time today in FTP single player.... finally got back to it after stopping for a week or so. Need tons of supplies, so I went caving, found a massive lava-level cave like MILES away from my current base, and had a full pack of almost every ore in the game. Still no diamonds. Then I saw two diamonds sitting right over the lava...grabbed cobble and bridged my way over to it. Of course, just as I was carefully adding more stone around it, I heard that sizzle and got blown to bits. Lost almost half my inventory, but luckily my tools and uranium stayed on top. Made a mad dash back with nothing in my pack, somehow managed to find my way through that maze of caverns back to my stuff...and saw those two diamonds were still safe. Turned the corner a few times, and I actually found two patches of diamonds for seven more.

Nice turn of events for an otherwise horrible experience. I got a lot less tin and silver(the real kind, not that 'fake' kind that makes like one or two things) and lead, but the diamonds were nice. I only needed two or three more to make a quarry, but I went ahead and made a mining turtle... those things look like they could be just as good, and if used right, maybe even better. Didn't have time to use it yet, though...

Talk about an explosive meeting :D, but hey it could have been worse. I need to get back to my play though on this mod pack, been way to busy with kingdoms of alamur reckoning. Can someone suggest a good seed for FTB? Just post one that doesn't spawn you near a town or in a town, I don't want it to be that easy lol.

Ergh... finally made a portal to the Twilight Forest because I was hoping for some easy-ish glowstone that I need for some other stuff. But for one, the world-transition is very laggy for my old computer, and two, I KEEP FALLING BACK INTO THE PORTAL. Why they thought a floor-based teleporter was a good idea, I'll never know. I don't want to mess with the stupid MystCraft section to make linking books back and forth to make it more stable, but I just really hate that.

For now, I blocked three of the portal squares on each world with cobblestone, and when I have the world load, I hold two directions and the spacebar in the hopes that I'll jump back out immediately if I get close to falling in again. But if anyone knows a better way of entering the portal while avoiding that immediately-teleporting-back thing, lemmie know.

Otherwise I've just been using my mining turtle and getting a couple tier-1 machines started. Found an abandoned mineshaft that is pretty huge, so I'm already avoiding large amounts of ore I should be getting. Got a mining backpack that's pretty handy, planning on getting a digger backpack next, but I'm also wishing I could upgrade to the bigger packs already(but WOW those are expensive/complex to make).

Wow, you're really getting villages all the time? I don't have even a far off sighting of a village anywhere around. I just allowed it to generate a random seed...

I guess you can call it the luck of the seed.. but yeah I usually get spawned within a few blocks away from a village or in a village. I've tired a few other seeds that I managed to find but they usually are what I don't want. Meh, guess ill just use my original seed: One ring to rule them all

Does anyone know if there's a bug or something that causes rubber trees to stop producing rubber? ALL of mine stopped, and I just barely managed to get ONE sapling from them and replanted one, but I'm worried it'll do the same thing eventually. I personally fear that using an electric tap on them might have done it, or tapping an 'empty' hole until that hole disappeared. At the moment I've gone back to using a wooden tap on the newest tree as well as not trimming the leaves much at all. If there's no way for the other trees to get sap again(as it's been in-game DAYS since they produced at all)I guess I could chop them down and put them in an extractor, but that'd be the end of that. Rubber trees are kind of rare in my world..

From the FTB Wiki: "Attempting to tap a saphole after it has disappeared can cause the tree to stop producing sap altogether; so wait a while and let the saphole return on its own."

I had some of my trees stop producing sapholes. When they did, I chopped them down and replanted with saplings. The new trees produced sapholes just fine.

Ah, well that sucks about the rubber trees. I tore down some of them, but the extractor is so slow. I'm almost certain I won't get any saplings out of the leaves, ergh.

Also.....stupid Greg Tech. I finally got the materials for a mining laser because I saw how to make good use of them, but I couldn't power it. I need an MFE apparently. Guess what? I can't make an MFE with the actual recipe...because Greg Tech overrides it....I need lithium batteries, and that requires an industrial centrifuge, which requires a crap ton more advanced alloys. At least if I can actually get a centrifuge going and get some sand, I can start working my way towards solar panels, especially since advanced solar panels are my ultimate goal at the moment. My geothermal's running out of lava cells quick though, and that costs a lot of tin, so I'm going to still be a while before I can relax a little.

I'm also REALLY annoyed at Twilight Forest. There aren't any 'special' areas around my spawn, but it's laggier than the nether, and the worst part - I keep loop-teleporting between worlds no matter what I do, it's so annoying and makes my computer lag HARD trying to reload and unload each world over and over and over again. Personally I don't think I'll ever go back unless I'm REALLY desperate.

Guys,

FYI: The FTB Forum has a collection of very helpful links for FTB v1.4.2 on this Forum.

Revived Guide Thread

BTW, am I the only one experiencing Minecraft crashing whenever I start a new world using the FTB launcher?
When I start it up again the new game was saved and then loads just fine. ;)

I don't have any loading problems, but I haven't tried to start a new world lately... *shrug*

Wow, after a LOT of work and trying to figure out things like the industrial centrifuge(because I thought gold wire acted the same as copper wire..somehow it doesn't), I *FINALLY* got ONE advanced solar panel! Although I'm attempting to use it to charge my mining laser, since an MFE seems so far away now. Seriously, I wish I could have used the energy-crystal recipe, because the lithium battery recipe is nearly impossible for me. Where do you even get aluminum? I've never seen it anywhere....

I also built a pretty neat savannah-tree house, using scaffolding. Has anyone on the Mindcrack FTB used scaffolding yet? It's so awesome...as much as Etho likes his ladders, I'm sure he'd LOVE scaffolding(although you can't shift to stay in one place). You can stand on top of them, and the best part is that you can build on them as well as raise them simply by 'punching' them with another scaffolding block on your hotbar. It's awesome stuff.

For now, I think I'm looking to make at least ONE more advanced solar panel, charging that mining laser, and getting some lithium batteries for that MFE that I need. Then maybe I can start piping and macerating + mass-producing ores for later stuff. And building a bigger/better home of course.

Why do solar pannels have to be so hard to make. :( It is going to take me forever to build one, but that is why water mills were invented! :D I think aluminum is a combination of some metals (maybe tin and something else). Sorry I cannot help much more, but that is all I remember from flipping though the recipe guide.

Macerate Bauxite ore and run batches of the dust through an Industrial Centrifuge. One of the products will be aluminum dust.

Oh that is what you use Bauxite ore for. To bad I do not have an Industrial Centrifuge. What should I do with my uranium? I used to turn it into raw energy in an energy condenser, but on FTB I cannot see any uses except for a nuclear reactor which I am hesitant about since I do not like blowing up. :P

Save the uranium for advanced solar panels. They're safe and very useful. You only need two uranium compressed into refined uranium(there is no bonus for macerating them into dust, it's 1-to-1); then use glowstone dust to make them irradiated uranium, then combine with reinforced glass to make the irradiated glass. Of course, using an industrial centrifuge to get the required normal-solar-panel is the hard part. I say use clay-blocks(not bricks or clay-balls) to centrifuge into clay dust, gives you both the silicon cells you need for solar panels and lithium cells for either fuel or making lithium batteries.

Yeah I barely came across the info a few hours ago, but thanks. The problem is that I'm nowhere near a redwood forest biome, or a 'real plains' biome...I think I'm in a red-mud/jungle-forest/savanna biome. I've never seen the stuff, although I hear other areas have it in HUGE quantities. Guess I'm going to have to travel for a bit. :S

Man, just spent like four hours here-and-there glancing at customizing a painterly pack. So I could merge it with the FTB add-on painterly pack. Don't have the RAM to try it yet, but hopefully it'll look decent enough. I tried the 16x BD-craft sphlax or whatever, but it wasn't complete, and I got kind of annoyed that they just downscaled it in the worst way possible...just looked back, should have been optimized, but wasn't. Oh well.
