Hey, guys.
Today the Feed the Beast Mod Pack and Launcher has been released.

Just incase you guys don't know what Feed the Beast or FTB for short it is a mod pack filled with mods that have all been confirmed by the mod developers to be available in the pack with the mods:
Spoiler

What is great about this is that you can take out any mods that you dont want in the pack and later on you can make your own mod packs.

For more information on how to work with the mod pack and launcher watch this video by Direwolf20. Also check out the website at http://feed-the-beast.com

The launcher installed flawlessly, as did adding Optifine. I found that the launcher will at times stop midway in launching Minecraft with the mods (it is only Beta after all).

Looking forward to exploring all the new crafting options.

Working on my first Apiary. Anyone know how to get honey from them? (Edit) Had to get the right flowers for the biome! Rolling in honey combs now! :)

I'm cooking now!

Edit: Had a visit from a creeper. He snuck up behind me in my base! No idea how he got in but there was ore, ingots, and debris everywhere! I'm still picking up the pieces. Grrrrrrrr.... At least the generators and equipment weren't destroyed.

I was able to run Tekkit on someone's server, but his went down, and of course NOW everyone is coming out and saying how "tekkit is bad" and all that. After watching countless LPs on FTB I finally felt a little more interested in trying to play it again. FTB(and probably Tekkit without a server pulling most of the weight) is tanking my system hard, though. The dumb part is, the latest launcher incorrectly downloads the mods, so it wiped everything, and I spent like five to ten minutes waiting for my system to settle down on the newly created world, only to realize it was basically vanilla minecraft by that point. :/ I managed to get the download to work correctly with GetRight since I don't have/want Firefox or the downthemall plugin, just going to go back and try to manually update it if I can. The folder structure for the zip is different from the now-empty one on my system, so I hope the launcher will see the downloaded zip package and just use that to regenerate everything.

That said, yeah, I'm a little disappointed Red Power isn't in since it apparently had some things I like in it(like the ruby/emerald/sapphire tools that are easier to get than diamond, but work almost as well), but I can do with EE since I don't bother with it. But I do think this is something that would be best used on a server than single player, I just don't know of any free/public/easy-white-listed places that have it. But well, here's to hoping it'll work again..

Egh... I did what I could, but I can't figure out on my own exactly where all the files/mods/jarmods go. When I tried to load it with everything in the places I wanted, it didn't load, just went into vanilla 1.4.2. Can anyone with a working FTB tell me what mods are in each section? Alternatively, if you could tell me what the actual Windows Folder structure I should put them in, that'd be good too. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like the ZIP file in question contains everything, and it also seems like you can't just unzip it all into the base folder(as far as I can tell anyway). I've Googled it with several different phrases and I just can't find it...I mostly just get FTB-LPs on Youtube and forum posts of people being extremely vague about it.

At the very least, maybe the next launcher update will actually fix this issue, but I don't know, I have the base parts, I just need to know where to put them...

I'm attempting to make a feed the beast server, I had one working at one point but everything got broken. I'm trying my best to get it up and running again, but try not to hold your breath on my post. Also Magnus, have you tried just running the .exe file?

Awesome, sounds cool! I'd be interested if there's spots open, but it's fine if not. (I try to stay busy with art, so if I'm doing good by continuing to draw, I might not have the time to do FTB.)

Well, I went ahead and just straight-dumped the ZIP into the directory, but I also copied some extra stuff around(the ZIP contained a "dot-minecraft" directory but the auto-generated mkdir directory was straight-named 'minecraft' but was empty, so I made sure both directories had identical files). But the launcher also updated once I tried it again(and I do use the EXE), and after checking, but without pushing force-update, it showed all the mods loaded. Predictably the VoxelBox section was still empty, and since that is considered third-party, I think what I did actually worked.

I don't have the RAM at the moment to try it(because I have some YT videos waiting to be watched), but if the mods are showing up, I think they should work. If not, maybe the updated launcher will actually work this time...

I think the new launcher works now. But basically you load it up, it shows you three things on the side, and generally for FTB you just click the top one, go with the defaults anyway, and then enter your Minecraft login information near the bottom, and then click the button(I can't remember if it's marked launch or start or whatever). If you're up to date, you'll go straight into Minecraft. If not, it'll download the latest package you need, HOPEFULLY finish downloading, and then it will show Forge updating, and then it will load Minecraft.

And then if your computer is like mine, it melts down and plods at a good ol' 2 fps for five minutes, then climbs up to 7. Seriously, doubting I'll ever use this unless it's on a server, because it's weighing pretty hard on my system. I even disabled the mods I didn't think I desperately needed or would ever use(seriously, they need to just dump portal gun, it's probably the most out of character thing added in) like portal gun and even the mini map just in case, and it still barely got up to 15 if I was standing still. Movement immediately decreased everything down to unplayable levels. I'd like to hope it'd eventually finish loading that chunk and come up on frames, but I really doubt it.

Did you load OptiFine? Click "Edit Mod Pack", then "Add Mod", then select the zipped file from the folder on your computer drive, click "Open", and then "Enable". I had to use OptiFine 1.4.2 not the 1.4.5 version. I had twice the FPS after installing it. :)

Ehh... mayyyybe that might help, but it was such low framerate I have a hard time believing that OptiFine would do much for it. Might help though. Do you just drop the zip directly into the JarMods directory for it to work? Since I had to download the modpack for FTB manually, it didn't give me ALL of the packages(such as Voxel or the extra JarMods) so I don't have it at the moment. Maybe I should attempt to see if the new launcher can download it on its own this time and see if it'll just get all of the mods automatically so I don't have to worry about manually adding those things.

I'll give it a shot once I have time, though, thanks..!

Well you don't actually download the launcher separately. It comes with the first download. You just have to open it. I know, that was a problem for me too.

Okay well... I put the 1.4.2 Optifine in the same directory as the other JarMod, but it didn't load. I know it was in there when I first downloaded FTB, but after the disappearance of every mod that was preinstalled when it first updated, it never came back.

So I was sitting there for pretty much 5 minutes, watching my FPS never go above 10, and averaging around 2~7, realizing it was just never going to get better. Oh well. If you know what I can do to make Optifine actually work in FTB let me know, but even then if it doesn't help very much, it might not matter I guess.

Not sure about the new Universal Electricity mod.. seems kind of bland if it doesn't have some of the others that I like in Industrial/Buildcraft and all that, and it has a lot of bulky stuff I don't really care for(like ICBM and Atomic Science, which look framerate-heavy). But if I hear that it runs lighter/faster/better than FTB does, that would be better than nothing I guess.

Tried using Voxel to make my own map that could become an adventure map, but I didn't see ANY of the tools you're supposed to be able to get to make land editing easier/faster(like VoxelSniper and WorldEdit). Although I have a feeling it wouldn't work too well on my system, at least the environment averaged about 15 to 25 fps after settling down. But unless someone knows how you're supposed to load those things I have no clue what to do; all I know is that it showed me a very empty macro editor and that's it.
