The original Civ was addicting (and felt like I was living out a real version of Risk), but Civ II is what made me lose countless hours of time during my younger days. Since Civ II, I've greatly enjoyed the series (especially the introduction of culture), but Civ II is what set the bar for me.
That was back when getting those Quicktime videos to appear when you were the first to build a wonder felt like you were literally the king of the world. And everytime I hear a certain song by J. S. Bach, the first thing I think of is building his cathedral wonder in Civ II....

I enjoy playing both Civilization IV and V. They have both strengths and weaknesses, like on the V the military strategies are much harder (which is a good thing) and on the IV you have much more nations to choose with...
There is only two tragedies in life...
One's that you can't mine whatever you want...
And the other is that you can...

Of the games I have played of this series I enjoy Civ III the best, though at first I hated it. It made me rethink my entire beginning game. I like the civilization call to power as well just for the simple fact of the length you could play.

Civ III with all the expansions is the perfection of the idea. I and II were just too raw. IV and V feel dumbed down and experimental. The only reasons V is winning is because it's the newest and III is ten years old.
Hey, don't get me wrong. Civ IV and V are fun to play. But if you haven't seen III, then you haven't seen the real thing.

I only have the first one And haven't even tried the others so I have no right to judge the other games over the I own.

I'd like to introduce a Civilization V series that I am running on my Punchwood blog.
It is called "The Frozen City" and it is a story of awesomeness and survival.
Check it out: The Frozen City
